The Bruichladdich Distillery, under the same ownership as Waterford, originally released this very special edition for the Travel Retail Market. The special thing about this release is the maturation on Sherry Casks. That is unusual at Bruichladdich. As a relatively young brand, Bruichladdich usually opts for characteristics such as floral and delicate. This Vintage 1990 25 Years Bruichladdich Islay Single Malt Scotch Whiskey comes in a limited edition of 6,000 individually numbered bottles. The premium Islay Single Malt is the result of the combination of 2 different batches, which consists of Batch One with 17 year old Refill Bourbon Casks, 5 year old Bordeaux Grand Cru Casks and 4 year old Pedro Ximinez Sherry Casks and Batch Two with 18 year old old Refill Sherry Casks and 7 year old Oloroso Sherry Casks.
An absolutely first-class Bruichladdich Islay Single Malt, which has been allowed to mature predominantly in traditional sherry casks and showcases the cask art and work of Jim McEwan in a particularly expressive way.
After the takeover of the distillery by Reynier, it turned out that there was still a stock of maturing whisky in the barrel. A huge amount of cask finishes (especially wine casks) and limited editions were spearheaded by Mark, Jim McEwan and the team, and the bottling we’re looking at here was no different.

Tasting note
This whisky has beautiful sherry influences. In the nose, deep and fruity notes emerge first. Then toasted hazelnuts and rich dark chocolate. You will also notice baked apple, brown sugar and a subtle orange zest. Finally, you notice damp oak and old leather. This whisky gives an explosion of scents. Give the glass plenty of time. It is complex, but very pleasant.
The taste comes first with some matured balsamic vinegar. A continuation of rich sweet sherry, orange zest and toasted hazelnut. Then flows dark chocolate mousse and dried fruit such as cherry and apricot. Also a touch of vanilla and ending with a light taste of tobacco and soft leather.
The aftertaste matches the rest. Orange with chocolate, rich vanilla and again the balsamic vinegar. The surprise is a little sea salt. Toffee, brown sugar, toasted nuts and a sour raspberry round it out. A very rich whisky that needs some time in the glass, but totally worth it.
