In the 1970s, Tomatin was still one of the largest whisky distilleries in the world. Since then, however, they have reduced production considerably, which has only improved the quality. They now go for quality instead of quantity. This series is an example of that. The last of the Five Virtues series is the Water, which is used to make the whisky in honor of the 5 elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water). “Water” is a tribute to Tomatin’s own well, the Alt-na-Frith Burn, which is used all year round. Half of the whisky matured in sherry hogheads barrels and the other half in second-fill bourbon barrels. Only 6000 bottles of this latest release were bottled. We have of course completed the series. So take a look at our Series page. For us, this series is a tribute to the craft and ancient history of Scotch.

Tasting note
This whisky is bottled at a cask strength of 46.0%. The nose is ripe and fruity with nice notes of chocolate and honey, toasted oak apple. Then aromas of pear and a little almond.
When tasting, they are immediately pleasant creamy flavors. Toffee and marzipan, caramel and marmalade. Then comes vanilla and spicy oak, but also coffee-like notes.
The finish is oily and with dark chocolate. The name of this release led to other expectations.
