In this Smugglers’ Series Vol. 3 ‘The Exciseman’, Arran pays their final tribute to the island’s rough smuggling past. An ode to the exuberant character of those who strive to outwit the government representatives in pursuit of the production of the famous Arran Waters.
The Madeira barrels used for this third part are comparable to those of the former illegal distillers of the Isle of Arran. The Quarter Casks also refer to this. The smaller barrels were easier to transport and hide from smugglers.
A beautiful packaging has also been designed for this last bottle. A hollowed-out blue book to hide contraband with the matching bottle forms the final part of this trilogy.

Tasting note
This third part of the series is matured in Madeira and Quarter Casks and is bottled at 56.8% Vol. In the nose you will first find honey and a lot of fruit such as apples. Then aromas of spices.
You can taste roasted oak, notes of vanilla and sweet spices. A pastry in your mouth. Then comes the sweet intensity and round, full flavor. Optionally, with a drop of water, the taste can be further opened and you will find caramelized citrus fruit.
The finish is surprisingly fresh with hints of apple and citrus fruit. A complex and luxurious palette.
