In this Smugglers’ Series Vol. 2 ‘The High Seas’ brings Arran their second tribute to the island’s rough smuggling past. The popular series refers to the illegal distillation of whisky in the 18th and 19th centuries.
A powerful spirit married to rum casks has been used for this edition. The use of bourbon barrels also ensures a sweet and fruity character. The rum casks give recognition to the black market liquor trade on the island. This is intended to continue to underline the importance of Arran’s independence.
The second bottle also comes in beautiful packaging. Just like the first part, a hollowed-out red book to hide contraband with the matching bottle is a real eye-catcher.

This second part of the series matures in rum and bourbon barrels and is bottled at 55.4% Vol. Citrus fruits first appear on the nose. Then aromas of the region. Seaweed refers to the coast, tree fruit, pepper make a complex nose. You can smell burnt wood in the distance.
You taste fresh and fruity notes, light mint with apple pie and ice cream. Then comes the spicy intensity of chili pepper and the smoky flavor of lit wood. Optionally, with a drop of water, the taste can be further opened and you will find melon and pear.
The finish is surprisingly fresh with hints of apple and citrus fruit. This is extended with subtle smoke and a pleasant bite. Spicy yet pleasant.
