We have now arrived at the sixth edition of the Anniversary Editions of Stokerij De Molenberg: Esmeralda. The release in honor of the distillery’s sixth anniversary. A limited edition of 8,000 bottles worldwide. After a first maturation of 30 months in ex Bourbon barrels, a second finish of 48 months in Madeira wine barrels followed.
At the time of the release of this whisky, 600 years ago, Portuguese explorers arrived on the island of eternal spring and named it ‘Madeira’ after the abundance of wood. This island in the Atlantic Ocean is known for its fortified wines. Because of the nature and many forests, it is also called Flower Island or Green Emerald. The latter refers to the name Esmeralda of this whisky.

Tasting note
In the nose, notes of fresh wood appear, combined with apples. Also a little cooked vegetables and broth. A special combination.
The taste is surprisingly full. The notes of butter and marzipan combine beautifully with notes of almond and earthy notes.
The finish is a bit like cookies, but turns towards a light metallic taste. It even looks like blood. A whisky that seems capricious from nose to finish with surprising combinations.
