We are now celebrating the eighth anniversary of Stokerij De Molenberg with the limited release Bajan. 14,000 bottles of this whisky have been bottled after the whisky has been aged in rum barrels.
Bajan is the Creole language spoken on the Caribbean island of Barbados. Known for sun-drenched beaches, extensive sugar cane plantations and rum production. Two casks have been used to mature this whisky. Aging for over five years in the oldest casks yields full, mellow hints of raisins and honey, while the younger Barbados rum casks add a refreshing blend of aromatic notes. The combination of the two results in a finely balanced whisky where you have the tropics in your glass.
The Anniversary Editions have now become one of the larger series and are very popular with collectors and enthusiasts. Did the family business, led by Charles Leclef, have foresight in bringing this series to market? Or is it pure luck with a beautiful craft? These editions are still sold out in no time as a sign of success.

Tasting note
A subtly sweet rum begins on the nose, combined with molasses, vanilla and oak. Then come aromas of caramel, coconut and banana. Together indeed a Caribbean touch.
The taste is full and sweet and flows from the nose, with notes of vanilla, coconut, cinnamon, molasses . The notes of some grain, chocolate and oak also follow. Finally some candied fruit.
The finish is even a bit peppery and medium long. A smooth, elegant whisky that is nicely balanced.
