The Glenfiddich Distillery is located north of Dufftown, on the banks of the River Fiddich. The name Glenfiddich means “valley of the deer”. Founder William Grant (1839-1923), son of a soldier, distilled his first whisky with three of his sons on Christmas Day 1887. All his children – seven sons and two daughters – later became part of the company and to this day William Grant & Sons is a family business, with the taste and quality of the whisky unchanged. Glenfiddich is today one of the largest distilleries in the world. The complex character and pure smoothness of this whisky stem from years of maturation in the finest Oloroso sherry casks and traditional bourbon casks. The touch of sweetness of the traditional sherry and bourbon casks balance each other perfectly. The result is a soft and full Scotch single malt whisky with an exceptional character. Silver Medal winner at the International Wine & Spirit Competition 2007. This exclusive Glenfiddich is aged for 26 years in ex-bourbon American oak casks. The 26 year old “Excellence” pays tribute to five generations of the Grant family. During the 26-year maturation, the handcrafted barrel breathes the pure air of the Scottish Highlands through the grain of the 70-year-old American oak known as “Quercus Alba”. After the individual rods have been assembled into a barrel in the cooperage, it is ‘toasted’ over an open fire. By toasting, vanillin and tannin are released from the wood, which give the whisky flavor. This whisky has had a heavier toast which is reflected in the taste. For Glenfiddich, who often make fruity and light whiskies, this is definitely a special release.

Tasting note
This whisky is a feast for the senses with a shiny golden color. The nose is soft and subtle. You smell honey and vanilla. Then aromas of pineapple, oak and spring blossom. Lots of depth and even a hint of leather.
The taste in the form of pleasant tannins with the taste of brown sugar and vanilla. Then a very subtle but cool note of tropical fruit. Finally firm notes of oak and followed by a hint of spice and licorice. The finish is long with ripe, sweet fruit that turns into pleasant spices. An absolute taste cannon with a very special intensity for a Glenfiddich.
