The oldest of the eight special releases 2021 from Diageo is the Lagavulin 26 years Special Release 2021. An absolute masterpiece from this iconic Islay distillery. This single malt whisky is inspired by a legend about a hidden treasure that was hidden on the Scottish island. It was a brilliant ruby red stone with an unmistakable shine. Due to several decades of exposure to fire, this stone radiated heat and a smoldering intensity; just like Lagavulin’s whisky also has. This Lagavulin has matured for 26 years on a mix of Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez barrels, which together makes this a true taste sensation.
It is the oldest release in Diageo’s 2021 series. We have this series complete in our collection. For more information, see also Series.

Tasting note
The nose has a finely woven wine-woody aroma of great complexity. It is also powerful with rich notes of sherry sweets, smoke and peat. This develops into hints of figs that give it a tasteful depth. The taste is oily and warming, with an unmistakable sherry sweetness. Soon a hint of salt and pepper comes into play. In the end, the smoky flavors also add up to a beautiful and complete palette.
The finish is long, sweet and smoky. Smoldering beech leaf with a light pepper. A complex harmony, but certainly in balance.
