Laphroaig is the largest of the three heavyweight Islay distilleries in Kildalton, out-stripping the production capacity of neighbours, Ardbeg and Lagavulin, by over 1 million liters per annum. Despite its traditional appearance, Laphroaig was always a forward-thinking distillery. It was bottled as a single malt as early as the 1920s, an unfashionable option at the time, especially for a peated whisky. They were also shrewd in capitalizing on post-Prohibition America to add trademark sweetness to their spirit through the use of imported ex-bourbon casks, and hired Scotland’s first ever female distillery manager, Bessie Williamson, in 1954. Laphroaig is one of only a handful of distilleries in Scotland to still use in-house maltings, providing them with 20% of their annual requirements, and contributing to the distillery’s unique flavor profile.
This Laphroaig 11 years old is an exclusive version. Bottled for Exquisite Store – Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. Triple aged – first in Bourbon barrels – then for a period in Quarter Cask casks and finally in ex-Oloroso Sherry Butts.

Tasting note
The first thing you smell upon entering is the typical Laphroaig-esque peat and iodine notes we all know, followed by hints of vanilla and rich sherry. Cinnamon, berry compote, stewed apricots, icing sugar and a distinct hint of oak emerge after some time.
The cinnamon, berry compote and stewed apricots provide a sweet and spicy complexity. The finish is getting drier. The wood, spice and peat fade into the background, while the sweetness of the sherry lingers.
