The Mortlach 13 Years Old is a mighty Mortlach single malt from Diageo’s 2021 Special Releases! This expression from the distillery, known as the Beast of Dufftown, is a 13 year old whiskey matured in a combination of virgin and refill American oak casks resulting in a particularly powerful flavor profile. For the theme of the 2021 special releases is Legends Untold! This is inspired by real and made up stories around each distillery in Scotland. This Oban 12 year old features a howling wolf on the label and is bottled at 55,9% ABV.

Tasting note
The smell is not the typical Mortlach meaty character, it’s less weighty and quite fresh. You will smell hints of suede as well. Unexpected, but really fine. In your mouth its a chewy texture but really punchy, on white pepper, more chalk and raw grains, hints of grapefruit, lime and gooseberries. After this a bit of vanilla, apples and dried Mediterranean herbs. The finish is quite long, gingery and leafy with spicy oak.
