The spirit for this 25 years old whisky was first distilled during a certain dark time in Ardbeg’s history, and was bottled from rare casks filled in the 1990s. After two acquisitions by larger companies and a huge drop in turnover, the distillery was forced to close in 1991. It wasn’t until six years later that Ardbeg was reopened and they were able to produce whisky at full capacity again. The distillery has only flourished since then, winning the World Whisky of the Year award twice and even launching some of their whisky into space. You can see a bottle of this ‘space whisky’ at the distillery. The Ardbeg 25 Years Old comes in a gunmetal bottle, packaged in a metal box that the distillery says “has a modern take on classic Ardbeg knotwork and is emblematic of the untamed complexity of this extraordinary whisky.
This 25 year old Ardbeg is a very exclusive and luxurious edition. An edition that the distillery itself is also very proud of. A bottle with a statement and a beautiful design to look at.

Tasting note
On the nose, a sharp burst of smoked cream, peppermint and toffee, with Ardbeg’s classic fennel and pine resin. Distant earthy bonfires mingle with spice and fruity (banana and tropical) notes, along with fragrant candle wax.
This Ardbeg has an extremely lively taste, hot peppery mouthfeel leads to a burst of sorbet lemon sweetness, candied apples, pears and orange. Also hints of carbolic soap and tar, more creamy toffee, aniseed and chilli pepper.
The finish is long and soft, with lots of cream, fudge and delicate notes.
