The success story of Distillery De Molenberg begins in 1637. Since that year, the miller family Van Breedam has been grinding and distilling grain into jenever on the Molenberg in Blaasveld. In 1872 Louis Van Breedam and his sister leave the Molenberg and become beer brewers in Mechelen. The family stays behind on the Molenberg. The Molenberg is still in the hands of the family to this day and the tradition lives on.
Charles Leclef grew up in the brewery in Mechelen as a child, but also knows the Molenberg in Blaasveld, where his uncle lives. After Charles modernized the brewery in 1990, another daring plan matured. He wants to distill beer into alcohol in the Molenberg, a Belgian whisky. This whisky distillery will be the perfect marriage between the two family traditions: brewing and distilling. The distillery is located in a historic 17th-century farmhouse, where the Van Breedam family distilled jenever between 1637 and 1914. De Molenberg’s first single malt was released in November 2013. To celebrate this milestone, the distillery releases a limited edition anniversary bottling each year. Distillery De Molenberg 1st Anniversary Edition Gold Fusion 2014 therefore came a year later, after the first single malt. This whisky is a limited edition of 5.000 bottles, released in 2014 for the first anniversary. Gold Fusion combines Gouden Carolus Single Malt with several trial distillates produced before the distillery opened in 2010. The spirit matured for over 6 years, first in bourbon casks followed by a long finish in Oloroso sherry and port casks. The result of this unique fusion is an elegant, smooth and complex whisky with rich notes of dried fruit and sweet honey.

Tasting note
Rich, sweet notes of dried fruit first appear on the nose, combined with honey. The basis of this whisky is the wash of the Gouden Carolus Triple Beer. This creates aromas of honey and sweet malt. This whisky is complex and young.
The taste is seductive, fresh and young. The notes of sherry aging such as dried fruit combine beautifully with notes of oak and honey.
The aftertaste is sweet and pleasant. A soft, elegant, yet complex whisky.
