Cask Information
Fettercairn 12 Year Old has been matured for its full twelve years in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels. There is no officieel vermelde tweede vatrijping of aanvullende finish: het karakter van de whisky wordt volledig gevormd door de combinatie van Fettercairn’s tropical spirit and prolonged maturation in bourbon-seasoned oak.
The ex-bourbon barrels introduce a smooth foundation of creamy vanilla, honeyed sweetness and gentle oak spice. Over twelve years, the wood also develops brighter notes of pear, nectarine and tropical fruit, while deeper influences of caramel, dark toffee and lightly roasted coffee gradually emerge.
Because the casks previously held American bourbon, much of the stronger tannin influence has already been softened. This allows Fettercairn’s naturally light and exotic spirit to remain expressive, while gaining sufficient sweetness, structure and complexity from the American white oak.

The character of Fettercairn is shaped by an unconventional approach to distillation. During production, cool water flows continuously over the outside of the copper stills through the distillery’s unique cooling ring. This encourages greater condensation and copper contact, helping create a light, pure and fruit-driven spirit with its signature tropical character.
After twelve years of patient maturation, the whisky reveals inviting notes of ripe pear, nectarine and exotic fruits. Soft vanilla and gentle spices provide warmth and structure, while roasted coffee, sultanas and dark toffee introduce a deeper and more indulgent dimension.
