In the year 1833, the then illegal distillery, called Burnfoot, was legalized. In 1905 that name was changed to Glengoyne. The Glengoyne Distillery is located in the Highland area near the town of Aberfoyle just north of the Lowlands border.
What makes Glengoyne different from many Scotch whiskies is that the malt is not dried with peat, but with hot air. The use of the Scottish barley Golden Promise also plays a role in the smooth taste, not to mention the extremely slow distillation process that is used here. The creation of the beautiful Glengoyne whiskies takes about three times as long as at other distilleries. These three special choices ensure the extremely light character that is characteristic of Glengoyne whiskies.
The 21 year old whisky is a vintage edition that was released in 2016 and is an edition with which Glengoyne wants to show its more luxurious segment. The 21 years will continue to come on the market, but this edition belongs to the first batches and is therefore a sought-after edition.
Glengoyne is one of only two remaining distilleries using Golden Promise barley today, which is low yielding but high quality. Together with superior water quality, Glengoyne makes wonderfully smooth whiskies, of which this is a wonderful example.

Tasting note
This whisky has a full copper color and it smells like fresh notes of red apples, toffee with aromas of sherry and raisins and spicy apple pie.
In terms of taste, you go towards the many aromas of sherry, honey and notes of oak. Light notes of cinnamon emerge in the aftertaste. And of course the aromas of sherry, raisins with spicy warm and slightly drier notes.
