Dalmore Distillery was founded in 1839 by a former partner of the opium trading firm Jardine Matheson. The distillery was taken over by the Mackenzie family in 1878 and remained in their possession until 1960. During the First World War, things took a drastic turn: in 1916 the distillery was requisitioned by the Royal Navy. It was used by the United States Naval Forces as a mine filling depot until 1919. Around the same time, distillation was banned as a measure to protect grain stocks.
Dalmore is now owned by Whyte & Mackay, which also owns Fettercairn and Jura. They took over the distillery from the Mackenzie family in 1960, but remain true to the family history. Dalmore is one of the most prestigious single malt whiskies in the world, headed by renowned master blender Richard Paterson. Thanks to his skill, experience and unparalleled knowledge, the brand has become a hugely popular whisky. The foundations of this were laid centuries ago, namely in 1263. In that year, Colin Fitzgerald, then the head of the clan, saved the life of King Alexander III when he was attacked by a deer. As a thank you, the Clan Mackenzie has since been allowed to use the royal deer antlers as their emblem. Something Dalmore has gratefully done since it came into the hands of the Mackenzies.
This very special Dalmore Vintage 2003 has been added to the Dalmore Vintage Collection. Crafted from hand-selected casks resting in the distillery’s famous sandstone warehouses. Crafted with a core of single malt matured in ex-bourbon casks, this exquisite expression is enhanced by lots of ex-Rivesaltes sweet wine, ex-matusalem, ex-amoroso and other small batch bourbon casks. A beautiful and exclusive edition of Dalmore.

Tasting note
The nose starts with honey, but soon the notes of dark toffee and vanilla emerge. But also aromas of banana and pine wood can be recognized.
In the beginning, honey and maple syrup dominate the taste. Among other things, tones of herbs and dried fruit form a wonderfully sweet and powerful whole. Also a hint of nougat, light mint with chocolate and some marmalade at the end. In the finish there are notes of spices and pine wood.
