In collaboration with Dutch importer De Monnik, Douglas Laing developed a new series, exclusively for the Netherlands. The Dutch Dram Masters will be a series of single cask bottlings that will be released under the banner of the Old Particular label. Each edition will be dedicated to a highlight of Dutch art history to honor the Dutch grand masters. This first edition is dedicated to Rembrandt’s The Night Watch. The whisky was distilled in June 2007. Before bottling in August 2022, the whisky was finished for over twelve months on PX sherry butt # DL 15935. A total of 710 bottles with a cask strength of 54.6% are available. A very exclusive release.
Caol Ila is well hidden in a cove near Port Askaig on the whisky island of Islay. Arriving by boat in Port Askaig, not far away you will see a sign on the road, pointing the way to the village of Caol Ila. This village consists of cottages, built by the founder of Caol Ila, for the distillery workers in the year 1846. Caol Ila, pronounced “kool iela” comes from Gaelic and means “Sound of Islay”. It is the name of the water between the islands of Jura and Islay. From the Stillhouse with its large windows, the view over the bay is breathtaking. After closures and takeovers, the distillery was completely demolished in 1970, except for the warehouse, and rebuilt in a few years. In 1974 the new Caol Ila was commissioned, with stills in the same shape as before, but everything now powered more modern and the production process is easier to control.
We are already looking forward to the next releases in this exclusive, beautiful series from Douglas Laing, which of course also try to add to the collection.

Tasting note
This whisky is bottled at a cask strength of 54.6%. A spicy boy. The nose is round and complex with nice notes of spicy summer fruit, cherries and toffee. Also some aromas of chocolate and vanilla and clear natural smoke.
The taste continues on the nose and also has some tannins Smoky and warm sweet. A bit syrupy and oily in the mouth.
The finish has peat smoke and fresh mint.
