Adelphi has a rich history, operating as a distillery in the Gorbals district of Glasgow from 1825, producing spirit from the waters of Loch Katrine. However, the distillery ceased production in the early 1900s and several changed hands culminating in a takeover by Distillers Company Ltd in 1902. The Adelphi name was revived in 1993 by Jamie Walker, great-grandson of the former owner from the distillery, Archibald. With a long tradition of whisky expertise, he ran Adelphi as a private bottling company, now owned by Keith Falconer and David Houston, continuing the fine work he began bottling top quality releases from Scotland’s finest distilleries.
This Glenturret from 1987 is a good example of this. A very rare edition, bottled in 2014 at the age of 27 from an ex-Bourbon Hogshead. Glenturret Single Malt has been crafted entirely by hand since 1763 at one of Scotland’s oldest working distilleries, in exclusive small batches. The restaurant, located in the distillery, even has a Michelin star. Definitely worth a visit and experience the story of this small craft distillery.
Whisky from 1987 is extremely rare. This is due to low production and sanctions from that time. The demand was not nearly as great as it is today. Take a look at the different years and you will notice that 1987 is extremely rare. That is why we are happy to have this item in our collection. Only 232 copies of cask number 398 have been produced worldwide.
Fruity
Oaky
Sweet
Tasting note
Let it breathe, smell the old cellar, then start with Christmas cake mix and candied fruit, intensifying with notes of candied orange peel and angelica on a rich, buttery base. Fruity and after a while spicy with oak, anise and caramel Licorice is also central.
The taste is full. Honey and ripe yellow fruit, such as mango and peach. Then pear with even a hint of pepper.
The finish is sweet on the palate with dark chocolate in the aftertaste. A touch of dried coconut and almonds, very magnificent.
