The success story of Stokerij De Molenberg has a third tribute in the series of the Anniversary Editions. Sola Jerez has entered the market for its third anniversary. The name is a reference to the barrels used. Sola means ‘only’ or ‘exclusively’ and Jerez is of course known for its sherry. The whisky consists of 33% of the first distillates from 2010 that fully matured in oloroso sherry casks. The remaining 67% is formed by trial distillates from 2007. These were first aged for six years in first-fill bourbon casks and then finished for three years in oloroso sherry casks.
As already described in the first edition of Gold Fusion, the history of Gouden Carolus can be traced back to 1471, in which year beer was started brewing in Mechelen. However, the Van Breedam family only comes into the picture much later. This family of millers has been distilling jenever since 1637 on their family farm “De Molenberg” in Blaasveld. The tradition is passed on from generation to generation, until the last distillate flows from the stills in 1927. Louis van Breedam and his sister Anna leave the Molenberg in 1872 and take over the Mechelen brewery Het Anker, starting a new family tradition. The brewery and distillery are still family owned. Charles Leclef, fifth generation brewery owner is the one who connects both family traditions.

Tasting note
Rich, sweet notes of sherry naturally come first on the nose, combined with rich fruit. Orange, apricot, figs and raisins give a nice body. Next come hints of honey and wood, It is even possible to recognize some fresh tree fruit. This whisky gives an explosion of scents.
The taste continues as the nose began. Ripe notes of sherry maturation. Then this whisky becomes pleasantly spicy with the taste of wood, some cinnamon and dried fruit.
The finish is long and pleasant. A nice balance that ends with warming oak. Lives up to its name.
